Ideas, ideas, ideas...

I am now working towards my final piece for my printmaking subject. I have been thinking a lot about what I would like to do. As my brief is Narrative, I have to tell some kind of story and give a meaning or reason to what I am going to do.
Over the summer holidays I was given an assignment to make my own book from scratch and I loved the project so much that I made about 8 books 3 of which I gave to other people. I really enjoyed the task and got great satisfaction out of completing each book.
I have had an idea that maybe I could make my prints of my final piece and then put them into a book that I have made.
I have also been thinking about what type of print I would like to take up to make my final piece and I found some great mono prints online that have inspired to do something similar.

Recently I have also been looking at other ways of drawing faces for other subjects of mine and have found some great wire artists with some really helpful examples of faces. I thought I could use these in a similar way as the monoprint in the picture I showed above.

To me, a doodle in a note book is as much as a work of art as a famous painting like the Mona Lisa.

WHAT IS ART?

I was quite confused after reading Germaine Greer's article on 'What is Art?' because in my opinion, everything is art. Every single pesron in the world has a different view on what art is and no one can say what is or isn't art.
Some people could say that, for example, a black line and a blue dot on a red canvas isn't art, but others might find that it really speaks to them. And this artwork is really personal to the artist. there is a specific reason why they painted the black line and blue dot. There is a reason why they chose to do it on a red canvas and a reason they the line is black and the dot is blue, not the other way around.
I think that if what has been created is personal to the one who created it, then it is art. This means that every doodle, every pointless line, every quote made up and written down, every sketch and every painting is a work of art.
But everyone has a different opinion. Other people might read this and say that I'm talking nonsense...the only thing that is true art is when there is a beautiful painting on a canvas hung on a wall in a well known gallery. But that's what I'm trying to argue...is that every person thinks differently and everyone has a different view on the matter.
I also think that no one should tell another person what art is or isn't as everyone has a different outlook on the subject... no one should try and change someones feelings about a piece of work that they feel strongly about because it is different for everybody.
To sum up, I don't think the question of 'What is art' can actually be answered because every single mind thinks differently about it.

Narrative

When deciding what image to use for my latest project in printmaking I decided to illustrate how I was feeling at the time, which was slightly nostalgic, a bit sad, a bit away with the fairies.  I drew out my own version of a painting of Micci Cohen's and added my own quote 'leave me alone nostalgia' and a background which was roses. I'm pleased with the final piece and the idea.
It links well to the project brief which is Narrative because its tells the story of how I was feeling at the time of creating the image. I think the whole image and quote works well together to tell my story effectively.
This is the picture that inspired me to do the image I made.
