SCULPTURE

I have found sculpture one of my most difficult subjects. I feel inspired however I find it difficult to get my ideas down onto paper. I am interested in a number of things such as using wax as my main medium and have it melting and dripping.  Body casting, swallows, which I have used in a number of my subjects and feel it would be nice to  have it in my sculpture too as it is something that is personal to me, roses which I enjoy sculpting and also other flowers and feathers which I have recent developed an interest in. I have also looked into wings or birds and butterflies. I have lots of ideas but am finding it impossible to pull them all together.
I have look at a number of artists but the one that stands out for me is Lucy Glendinning. She sculpts a lot of things that I like, we have a similar interest in body castings, feathers and dripping. I have now looked at her twice in my book because she regularly updates her website with new sculptures. Her most recent one is 'Feather Child' which is a body cast of a child that she has completely covered in feathers.

FASHION

I feel like I have reallly flourished in my fashion lessons. I started out haveing an interest for the subject as I feel that fashion is a huge part of our every day lives and I feel I have a very individual style.
Our last project was to create a collection under the title of 'The Elements' and I made 2 dresses for this that turned out well.
This term I am allowed to create a collection of anything I like. The sky is the limit!
and after a lot of brainstorning, I have come up with a collection in which I will knit all the clothing.
It will follow a really grungey theme; messy, dark, creative. It really suits how im feeling at the moment and I think if you link your work with your emotions, your work becomes more your own or your own style and that is exactly what I am trying to find whilst being on this course.
I realised that I have made a lot of dresses in fashion so I thought a change would be nice. So I have planned to make a jumper, a top, leggins, a poncho, a small dress and shorts. And more if I can.
One knitwear designer I have looked at was Mark Fast who's work has really inspired me.
I love the holes down the side of the dress and would love to use this idea in my own designs,
On a less serious note, I looked at Yarn Bombres. The knitting fenattics who cover objecta arouns the cities in knitwear...its like beautiful grafiti.

FINAL MAJOR PROJECT

At the beginning of final major project I had 2 different teachers and we started doing different things; a project in art and a separate project in design. I did lots of photography for the art side and for the design side I made a set of 3 colour change lights which I'm so pleased with.
Now I have been working on a project all about Fashion Photography where I have taken a large range of photos and on each one I am asking the model to write a quote or something personal onto the photo for me. This means there will be a range of different handwriting fonts on all the photos and I fill it will make it more personal to the model. The photos are all going to tell some kind of story so the planning for each one has been very thorough. So far i have done about 15 shoots and am planning to do a few more. It is a lot less than I had originally planned but due to my other subjects it was hardly possible to organise many more shoots.
I looked at a number of photographers for inspiration including Tim Walker, who inspired and informed my fashion photography; Peter Beard who really inspired me to take beautiful photographs and Jim Goldberg who gave me the idea to write on my photos.

Initial inspiration.

Some outcomes so far:

At the beginning of the graphics coure I learned about logos and advertising. I founed that I wasnt ovverly interested in this and I found my own way of putting words and images together whilst keeping to my criteria. I did photoshoots in the dark room and found quotes to match the photos. I really enjoyed this project and it spurred my new love for putting quotes with images. When it came to chosing a final project, I knew that I wanted to do that involved me writing on images that I had either photographed or painted. So I have decided to make a book inside a book (I have used an old book about flying and aeroplanes) I usually do about 2 pages a week and each page reflects on how I feel or what im thinking. Its really personal to me and I ave really enjoyed makiing it so much. I feel I can get all my thoughts and feelings onto paper which helps me and its for my work. I have found it difficult to find artists to inform my work because there are rarely artists who do this sort of thing. However I have looked at artist journals which is great for inspiration.

SMALL SCALE DESIGN

Since I started planning for my small scale, I have wanted to make fire bellows. I started planning on making 4 sets of bellows, each one was a different card suit so one would be shaped as a heart, the next a spade, diamond and club. The idea of card suits came to me very suddenly and I really liked it so had stuck to that and had a clear image in my mind of what I wanted. However time went on and I still hadn't started making so I decided to change my idea to a slightly more simple one where I am now making 1 set of bellows with a drawing I created myself of the Joker and it includes all of the card suits on it. This is a much easier task and I have already etched the design onto the bellows and cut out the shape of them. Below is a photo of the etching I designed.

HUMAN SCALE DESIGN

For this subject I have been planning on making a gazebo out of bamboo. It was so hard to convince my course leaders that I was able enough to do this projects because it is such a large scale and expesive thing to make and they were worried I wouldnt be dedicated enough to making it. However so far I have done really well. Having ordered and received my bamboo I have cut them down to the size I have planned. I am covering it in pretty, floaty fabrics and I would love to put lights and decorations on it too. Above is a picture of my intitial inspiration.
